TOEIC test tip #1: Determine the correct order to do the test
The following is the order in which the questions in section 7:
Read the question before reading the passage → determine what you want to ask → read
the passage and find a place for the question to read more carefully.
Answer in advance informational questions such as: Who is…? Where…? When…? to
help get an overview of the article. Then answer inferential questions such as:
Purpose…? Can I infer…? Information NOT in the article?
Normally, except for inferential questions (eg: Purpose…? Can we infer…? Information
NOT in the article?), the order of questions in the article will follow the flow of the
article. That is, if you find the answer to question 1 in paragraph 1, the answer to question
2 will be in the sentences or paragraphs below where the answer to question 1 is.
Mẹo thi TOEIC #2: Đọc hiểu nhanh câu hỏi và rèn kỹ năng đọc lướt (Skim & Scan)
Sharpen skim and scan skills
When we know what the question wants to ask, we review the passage and look for
passages that contain the keyword in the question (skim). Then, determine what content
to look for in the passage and then read that passage carefully to find the correct answer
(scan).
TOEIC test tip #3: Use context to answer questions about vocabulary or the main
idea of the lesson
Use context to answer questions about word meanings. Whether you know the meaning
of this word or not, look at the surrounding context of the word to guess the meaning.
With inferential questions, the information will not be said directly in the lesson. Then
look at the words and ideas in the text that are mentioned in each option.
