STEP 1 PLAN
- Address the task (You must immediately recognize the type of graphic and its features. It
may be a graph, chart, or table)
- Determine the topic (Read the title of the graphic and scan features.)
Example:
Graphic type: line graph
Title: Cellphone subscribers, Marysville
What? Number of cell phone subscribers
Who? Men and women
When? 1995-2015
Where? Marysville
Topic: The number of men and women cellphone subscribers in Marysville from 1995 to
2015.
- Make notes about comparisons (Make comparisons where relevant. It is advisable that
you look for things you can compare like different places, types of people, types of
activities, products, and changes over time.) Use the information details (who, what,
when, where) to find comparisons.
Example:
TWO kinds of comparison
<1> the number of men cell phone subscribers in different years
<2> the number of women cell phone subscribers in different years
- Make notes about Details (Now you will look for the details that describe the
comparisons.)
