HOW TO GET A HIGH SCORE IN IELTS WRITING (Ms Huyen)
IELTS is commonly known as the International English Lnaguage Testing System that is a globally accpted examination to evaliaute your English skills. It is mainly required when a person belonging to a non- English speaking country aims to move to an English speaking nation. It is necessary to know what is to be expected in these two test modules. While speaking is divided into three parts, Writing has two tasks which vary based on Academic and General IELTS.
ActualIy, n Academic Writing Task 1, you have to describe and analyze the data given on one of the diagrams given in the question: Bar Graph, Line Graph, Pie Chart, Table, or a diagram. In the General counterpart, you will have to write a letter either in a formal, semi-Formal, or iInformal tone as mentioned in the question. For the second task, you have to write an essay for both Academic and General.
Firstly, understand the question before attempting: Before giving the test, know what is asked of you. For that, you need to read the question thoroughly. It will help you decide on the structure of your answer and guide you about what necessary points you have to include in the answer.
Secondly, construct grammatically correct sentences and use Proper Vocabulary - Grammar and vocabulary are of utmost importance in any language test. Similarly, correct grammar and strong word power are two of the most important criteria of evaluation for IELTS. So, if your sentences are grammatically correct and you use a variety of synonyms and antonyms in your answers, the examiner will get a clear idea of your proficiency in the language and award you.
Thirdly, keeping track of word count - Both these sections have a minimum word limit of 250 words. You have to be careful about maintaining this count. You can write more than that, but writing less than that will make you lose some valuable points.
Fourly, time management is crucial - Just like the word limit, there is an allotted time for each of these exams that you have to follow. Practise hard at home so that you are able to put the time given to the best use. Proper planning and good preparation are the two important keys to success.
Finally, follow the tone and structure of the question and do not include irrelevant information - Both essays, descriptions, or letters have certain universal structures. During the exam, do not try to experiment with new ideas of the format. You have to include various words, emotions, and sentence structure, but be careful not to sound irrelevant to the examiner.
