DUY TAN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS WON 3RD PRIZE IN INSOMNIHACK CTF

FINALS COMPETITION IN SWITZERLAND (Ms Cuc)

 

After 10 hours of competition all night from March 24 to 25, 2022, the ISITDTU team of Duy Tan University, Vietnam won the third prize at the Final Round of the Insomnihack CTF Finals contest organized by SCRT SA. Insomnihack CTF Finals is held at the Palexpo Convention Center in Geneva, Switzerland and is one of the largest Information Security competitions in the world every year.

To reach the Final Round, Duy Tan University's ISITDTU team must pass the online Qualifier with a 24-hour competition time. In the Final Round, ISITDTU team competed with 60 teams from many countries around the world such as Switzerland, Poland, France, Russia, etc. In which, there are about 20 teams from universities, the rest are all are experts from companies and organizations in the Cyber ​​Security industry.

The format of competition in the Final Round is Jeopardy, consisting of 5 main areas: Web, Reverse, Pwnable, Crypto, and Network/Forensic.

The teams participating in the Insomnihack CTF Finals are all teams that have passed the Qualifiers, so their expertise and skills are very high. In particular, many teams also include members who are cybersecurity experts from many countries around the world. Therefore, the ISITDTU team had to be highly focused in each competition. The efforts of the ISITDTU team of Duy Tan University, Vietnam have brought home the Third Prize of Insomnihack CTF Finals 2022 for universities.

Along with this award, the "white hat hacker" team ISITDTU has won many previous awards such as: - Top 8 Imsonihack CTF Finals 2019,

- Top 1 CTFtime Vietnam in 2019 and 2021

- Top 2 CTFtime Vietnam years: 2016, 2018, 2020.

This result stems from the "heart and mind" of the members of the ISITDTU team. The group often reads solutions from challenges in previous competitions that the team did not solve or read blogs with new techniques, then together discuss, analyze and reconstruct new attack techniques to find out. understand. When entering the contest, in addition to actively solving their exams, the members always help each other to find the solution.

The most important thing is that we were equipped with solid background knowledge by the teachers, guided to approach security issues in practice, so we were very confident when competing", student Dau Hoang Tai - member of the ISITDTU group - said.

The members of the ISITDTU team are students studying CMU Network Engineering and Information Security at Duy Tan University, so when they study and participate in the competition, they are always very "in tune" with each other.

Time to practice and participate in Information Security competitions is quite a lot, but team members also constantly try to complete other exercises in class. The academic ranking of the group members is always Good and Good. In particular, the teachers are always dedicated to helping students, answering all questions, aiming for students to be able to understand each issue specifically and clearly. In particular, Mr. Nguyen Kim Tuan helped the ISITDTU team a lot, introduced each member about CTF and led everyone to participate in competitions and won many great prizes.

Studying Network Engineering or Information Security at Duy Tan University is very interesting. Especially, participating in competitions has helped each member improve their knowledge, skills as well as confidence in themselves."
