DUY TAN IN THE TOP 10 SOUTHEAST ASIAN PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN 2022

(Ms Cuc)

In 2022, AppliedHE conducted an assessment for the Private University Ranking: ASEAN. The top 10 of the ranking are private universities of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. In which, Vietnam has 1 private university on this list, Duy Tan University in the coastal city of Da Nang.

Ranking of Private Universities: ASEAN was established to measure the most important indicators of private universities that students decide to attend on their journey to acquire knowledge and skills for future careers. future. Especially in Southeast Asia, private universities play an important role in expanding opportunities for learners to access higher education, in addition to training high-quality human resources for society.

There are 29 universities in Southeast Asia ranked this round from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. In which, the Top 10 are universities as follows:

1. University of BinaNusantara (Binus) (Indonesia)

2. University of TenagaNasional (Malaysia)

3. Islamic University (Indonesia)

4. University of Santo Tomas (Philippines)

5. Telkom University (Indonesia)

6. Muhammadiyah Malang University (Indonesia)

7. Krirk University (Thailand)

8. Duy Tan University (Vietnam)

9. SEGI University (Malaysia)

10. University of Teknokrat (Indonesia)

Each ranking has a different implementation. AppliedHE measures what is important to students, namely: Quality of Teaching and Learning, Employment and Employment Opportunities, Research Competency. In particular, the measurement of research is because this activity helps improve the quality of teaching, and the international and community outreach of educational institutions is also considered to help improve the overall learning experience. The final criterion is: Brand value of the higher education institution. Whether the institution is respected by other universities, therefore, the prestige of the degree or diploma also has some weight.

In the overall rankings, Duy Tan University ranks 8th. Particularly for 2 criteria of Teaching & Learning Quality and Reputation, Duy Tan University ranks 5th among private universities in Southeast Asia. Ranking of Private Universities: ASEAN with the following weights: - Teaching & learning quality: 40%, Employment opportunities: 15%, Research capacity: 15% (research often contributes to improving teaching quality), Community involvement: 10% (an educational institution's international and community outreach to enhance the overall learning experience), Internationalization: 10%, Brand equity: 10% (brand value of a university : whether that university is respected by other universities, from which it is possible to assess the "weight" of the diploma that students receive after a long period of study).

Explaining why only private universities are ranked, AppliedHE says: Private universities differ from public universities in that they receive little or no funding from the Government. Private universities often focus on teaching and employment. Students pay tuition with the expectation of acquiring the knowledge and skills to access the best job opportunities and receive the best education possible. Public universities are more heavily funded by the Government, which means they are in a position to do more research or offer less commercial courses.

Because of these major differences, it is not always fair to compare private and public universities on the same basis. Scientific research is an important criterion for universities to have high positions in world university rankings, however, private universities often rank quite low because of their less science research budget.
