A pioneer in malaria control in the village
Graduated from the Department of Internal Medicine at Hue Medical University, the young doctor Hoang Ha at that time returned to work at the Army Medical Corps, Army Corps, 15th Army, Military Region V. Immediately after being discharged from the army (around October-October-October. 1989), Doctor Ha returned to work at the Malaria Station in Quang Tri province as deputy head of the station, and then took the position of head of the Malaria Station.
In the years 1990 - 1992, in the Vietnam - Laos border area of Quang Tri province, the malaria situation was extremely complicated. The number of patients who died was very high. Dr. Ha, together with the leadership and staff of the Malaria Station, launched an initiative to find volunteers for malaria control in this area. The subjects of "volunteers" at that time were mostly ethnic minorities in the mountains of Pako and Van Kieu, whose educational level was only 2nd and 3rd grade.
Some practitioners are still not fluent in listening, writing and speaking Kinh, making it more or less limited to receive information and then propagate and guide people to prevent and control malaria. Facing that situation, Dr. Ha opened the first classes called "Villains for malaria prevention volunteers", to both teach Kinh language and guide how to prevent malaria for local residents. ethnic volunteers. These volunteer practitioners later became the core of the village health service of the Ministry of Health.
During the volunteer training process, there is a memory that makes Dr. Ha unforgettable: "It was during a training session directly for village health workers in A Bung commune, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province. Suddenly, there was a patient with severe malaria who fell into a coma at the village but could not be taken to the hospital.
It is known that the magician who was invited to worship gave up. Therefore, the mountainous ethnic people from here trust the medical staff even more. As for the trainees, when they witnessed and practiced with this patient's case, they gained experience with years of clinical practice."
To spread this model, Dr. Hoang Ha wrote an article on "Building and strengthening a network of volunteers working on malaria prevention in the village". The article was immediately published in the Journal No. 4-1994 of the Quy Nhon Sub-Institute of Malaria - Parasites - Insects (now the Quy Nhon Institute of Malaria - Parasites - Insects).
This is considered the first article on the construction and operation of the Village Health Network in Vietnam and is the main reference for a master's thesis in Belgium by the former head of the Institute - signed insects - insects Ho Chi Minh City. Soon after, in 1995, the Ministry of Health started training and established the National Village Health Network.
From 1999 - 2013, when the Malaria Station joined the Preventive Medicine Center of Quang Tri province, Dr. Ha continued to be assigned the position of deputy director of the center.

They have determined that according to the medical profession, they must always keep the "flame" of their passion, study seriously, and be good at both theory and practice.
Medical education is not limited to time and content to learn - that is also my life and work motto, and I also want to convey it to all my students. I hope they grow up early, and study hard to avoid mistakes in the medical profession. Because the professional competence gained from the university lecture hall, from the practical internship will be a 'miracle' to save a person's life when actually entering the profession, which is also what every doctor always does. towards," said Dr. Ha.
