AN INVESTIGATION INTO STRATEGIES TO ATTRACTING THE FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS TO DUY TAN UNIVERSITY DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

INTRODUCTION    

      While the global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is ongoing, the whole world is buckling to suffer heavy losses not only in terms of economics but also many other problems in which education cannot be ignored. It is clear that the pandemic has severely impacted educational systems globally, and most governments have temporarily closed educational institutions, with many switching to online education to retain their students. And Duy Tan University is also making a great effort to do this, especially to draw the attention of freshmen to enter to Duy Tan University. In this article, we will discuss some strategies to attract the first-year students to duy tan university during the Covid-19 pandemic.

CONTENT

      As far as we are concerned the Coronavirus pandemic is the defining global health crisis of our time. Since its emergence late last year, the virus has spread to every continent except Antarctica. Cases are rising daily in Africa and South America, and Europe has taken over as the epicenter of the disease and more cases are now being reported every day than in China at the height of its epidemic. In Vietnam the COVID-19 pandemic is part of the ongoing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). As of 20 August 2021, Vietnam has officially reported 323,268 confirmed cases, 132,815 recoveries, and 7,540 deaths. 24.9 million Tests have been performed. This figure just shows that the epidemic happening very complicatedly is causing a lot of damage to the economy and social security of the country. So how can people feel secure and can afford to send their children to universities? This is a big question for not only the people who want their children to go to universities but also the universities.

      In fact, a biggest concern when parents choose a university for their children is tuition fee. It is stated that students have to pay average 5 million VND a year in fees alone for their education from 2012. From the 2020/21 academic year, this rose to approximate 10 million VND. This figure shows that the tuition burden is on parents. However, not all institutions have decided to set their fees to this maximum level. They have to check how much the universities cost them when their children attend the universities. So they must take this into consideration before they apply for a university.

      Faced with this situation, in order to attract first-year students to study at the school, we must focus on the issue of tuition fees- tuition reduction or tuition support for first-year students, which can be extended to the second year because of the ongoing epidemic situation. People's lives are still difficult. When it comes to tuition fees, our school will be the first school targeted by students.

      Moreover, preparing student accommodation is one of the best ways to attract freshmen to our university. In fact, students from other provinces coming to Danang are still confused with where to stay since they can hardly find a suitable accommodation with many facilities of the school. Therefore, if we provide good accommodation for them to study with peace of mind, we will attract first-year students to our school in large numbers.

      Finally, the most important thing is building a solid recruitment consultant team. This is a decisive factor in attracting freshmen to our school. The consultants are responsible for advising the best about the university, especially offering scholarships, advanced programs, and studying abroad. This will create excitement for students when choosing our university as a place to incubate wisdom and reach great heights.

CONCLUSION

      In summary, there are several strategies to attracting the first-year students to Duy Tan university during the covid-19 pandemic. What we should do is keeping in mind the strategies of tuition, accommodation and a solid team. We hope that with these strategies we will have many freshmen in the coming years.
