SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES FOR LISTENING CLASSES

Through doing the survey and through the process of implementing the topic The
effectiveness of the English Listening warm-up activity of the students of the English
Department, School of Foreign Languages, Duy Tan University, I realized that this activity has an
important role. Because thanks to this stepping stone activity, students as well as lecturers can
not only summarize the knowledge of the old lesson but also suggest the new content naturally
and seamlessly.
Since this activity as mentioned is just a stepping stone, in my opinion the most suitable
time is in the first 15 minutes, because after that, it takes a lot of time to implement the main
content of the lesson. This can be considered as a secondary activity, supporting the main
activity, but if it is removed, it will be difficult for later activities to take place smoothly.
However, looking at reality, it can be seen that the widespread application of warm-up
activities for all listening lessons is still limited and inadequate because not only because of the
passivity of a part of students, the specificity and complexity of each lesson, but also requires a
lot of creativity and enthusiasm of the teaching staff who directly teach this subject.
So in order to increase the effectiveness of the warm-up activity of Listening English on both
the learner's side and the teacher's side, I proposed a new activity. As follows:
1. Appropriate time to organize warm-up activities: in the first 15 minutes of the hour.
2. Form of organization: the whole class will be divided into 2 groups A and B, the
teacher will let the whole class listen to the old lesson and the students of each group will take
turns asking questions for the other group to answer.
3. For the Lecturer: play the role of commenting on the answers of the 2 groups.
4. For students: Actively participate in asking questions and answering questions.
5. The effectiveness of the way listening activities are organized according to the
proposed form:
If you organize the start-up of the class in this way, it will overcome the situation that
the class is only managed and organized by the lecturer, making students feel like they are
forced, no longer having the freedom and autonomy to participate. participate in classroom

activities. When changing to the proposed activity, the class warm-up will have the
participation of both lecturers and students to create the most fairness, transparency,
democracy and creativity, thereby maximizing efficiency. for the first 15 minutes of the warm-
up. At the same time, this method also meets some common goals of the Listening subject,
such as: helping students practice listening, understanding, memorization, and reflex skills
through asking and answering questions from each other. Through a survey of both lecturers
and students of the English department, I found this activity to be new and highly practical.
However, this is just my personal suggestion, has not been through any testing or testing in
practice, I hope you will consider and give further comments.
