DESIRE TO CREATE A HAPPY UNIVERSITY ENVIRONMENT

At the age of 83, Labor Hero - Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co, Chairman of Duy Tan University's School Council, is still very clear-headed and constantly working with the desire to build a humanistic and civil university education environment. owner - innovation - creativity.

Mr. Le Cong Co (photo) had a conversation with Thanh Nien reporter about the desire to build a humanities university. He said: "At 83 years old, I am lucky that my memory has not yet deteriorated. As time goes on, I remember better. Every day, I think a lot and continue to contribute my efforts to building Duy Tan University. like throughout the past 29 years.

I have great confidence in the current young team. When working on the school development strategy, the key team participated with great enthusiasm. I let you guys see that school is home, and coming home is also school. Only in this direction can the school develop. Brothers now have the mindset of working for hire. But working at Duy Tan University is working for hire to create new things, serving society"…

Sending people to school to "turn their things into your own"

Duy Tan University has developed to a new stage, is such "hot" development too much for the school?

Since 2006, when Dr. Le Nguyen Bao became principal, the school has completely changed. Since the 2006-2007 school year, the school has implemented a credit-based training program.

Dr. Bao brought back American educational philosophy and changed perception one step further. Along with that, the school strengthens cooperation with American universities, especially where Dr. Bao studied, Carnegie Mellon University, one of the four leading information technology schools in the US. Thanks to that, Duy Tan's information technology segment is always leading. The school and a number of like-minded partners decided to buy 24 American subjects worth 2 million USD. The important change in awareness is that the school has sent lecturers to the US to study, at a cost of 10,000 USD/person. Even though it's expensive, you have to go to change your outlook, methods... to return to work with a different spirit. To date, the school has sent about 500 officials and lecturers to study abroad.

Back then, I introduced the slogan "1 year equals 10 years". "Hot" development has caused the management team to be unable to keep up, causing a management vacuum. Later, the school established a broader international relationship network by establishing relationships with four major American universities, in the fields of information technology, business administration, tourism, accounting, and construction. , architecture, electronics... The school sends people to study with the slogan "turning their things into your own" only then will things be successful.

Filling that "gap" must have been an arduous process, sir?

Step by step, we filled that gap. We provide continuous training on management. Although there was great pressure and to be honest, the brothers endured it, but luckily they acknowledged that: Mr. Co is old and still has innovative thinking. If he can endure it, why can't the younger brothers. I also strongly encourage you and pass on the fire of desire to you.

The strategy I outlined was fiercely implemented by the brothers. In the context of the school lacking everything in terms of capital, infrastructure..., the only thing we have the most is the will, we work hard day and night. Principal Le Nguyen Bao always brings many boxes of books when he comes back from America. The amount of work is huge, but the path is there so you have to work hard.

Graduates must be able to access the labor market

What is the policy of a modern and humanistic university, the strategy to 2030 and the school's further vision, sir?

When I first established the school, I wrote a slogan Vietnam's Bravery - Innovate, reach great heights. Vietnam's bravery is eternal and eternal. The school's strategy is to combine Duy Tan culture with training and research based on modern humanities. Later, I changed it back to Humanities - Democracy - Innovation - Creativity.

The school also makes a very careful strategy and sets the goal: "All for the benefit of students' learning, research and employment to meet social, regional and international needs." The school also sets out the mission of "Training associated with scientific and technological research to create students who are patriotic, have humanistic qualities imbued with Vietnamese identity, and are conscious of participating in community activities." , have good health, have comprehensive abilities and skills, be confident, dynamic, creative and become a global entrepreneurial citizen."

So what has Duy Tan done to prepare students for life?

To avoid unemployment, I think you need to be good at foreign languages and secondly, you must be good at technology. The school focuses on skills training for students and selects skills that students can access to the labor market.

In addition to being equipped with professional knowledge, the output of students must meet foreign language and information technology standards. During their studies, students can join clubs to improve their career skills. Currently, the school has many clubs that promote students' strengths. Therefore, when students graduate, they adapt very quickly and are highly appreciated by businesses. Three consecutive years of surveys have shown that more than 92% of graduates have jobs
