9 VIETNAMESE UNIVERSITIES WITH INFLUENCE ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ACCORDING TO THE 2023
Times Higher Education (THE) on June 1, 2023 has announced THE Impact Rankings
2023 - Ranking of influential universities for sustainable development in 2023, including
9 Vietnamese universities.
THE Impact Rankings is not an academic, research or teaching ranking like THE World
University Rankings, but a ranking that takes the implementation of the 17 Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations as a benchmark. evaluation of higher
education institutions globally.
For example, even education quality goals are not about training quality as is commonly
understood, but are used to measure indicators of lifelong learning, public participation
events, political The book does not discriminate against learners, the percentage of
learners who graduate with a pedagogical certificate, etc.
THE Impact Rankings assess the influence and contribution of educational institutions to
the development of society, people and efforts to protect the environment. Specifically,
THE Impact Rankings of Vietnamese universities in 2023 are as follows:
1. University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, position 301-400,
2. Duy Tan University, position 401-600,
2. Hanoi National University, position 401-600,
4. FPT University, position 601-800,
4. Hanoi University of Science and Technology, position 601-800,
4. National Economics University, position 601-800,
4. Ton Duc Thang University, position 601-800,
8. Phenikaa University, position 801-1,000,
9. Ho Chi Minh City Open University, position 1,001+.
In 2023, there are 2 more Vietnamese universities ranked in THE Impact Rankings,
including:
- University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City,
- Ho Chi Minh City Open University.
Compared to 2022, the rankings of Vietnamese universities have increased, with some
still standing. Specifically, in 2022, Duy Tan University and Hanoi National University
were both ranked at 601 - 800, now increasing to 401 - 600 in 2023. FPT University in
2022 will increase to 801 - 1,000 positions. position 601 - 800 in 2023.

Universities including: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ton Duc Thang
University, National Economics University will maintain the position 601-800 in 2023,
and Phenikaa University will maintain the position 801-1,000 in 2023.
Two Vietnamese universities are ranked for the first time this year. Ho Chi Minh City
University of Economics, as soon as it entered the ranking, topped the list of Vietnamese
universities, position 301-400, while the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City ranked at
the bottom, position 1,001+.
There are 1,591 educational institutions from 112 countries and territories ranked in THE
Impact Rankings 2023, an increase of 185 institutions compared to 2022. The UK is the
most represented country in the Top 100 with 26 schools, followed by Australia with 16
schools and Canada with 15 schools.
The final score for a higher education institution in the ranking is the average of the SDG
17 - Collaborating to Realize the Goals with the top three scores of the remaining 16
SDGs. SDG 17 has a weight of 22% of the total score, while the remaining 3 highest
SDGs have a weight of 26% each.
THE Impact Rankings includes 17 criteria:
- SDG 1. Poverty eradication,
- SDG 2. Hunger eradication,
- SDG 3. Health and happy life,
- SDG 4. Quality education,
- SDG 5. Gender equality,
- SDG 6. Clean water and environmental sanitation,
- SDG 7. Clean and affordable energy,
- SDG 8. Economic growth and decent jobs,
- SDG 9. Industry, innovation and infrastructure development,
- SDG 10. Reducing inequality,
- SDG 11. Sustainable cities and communities,
- SDG 12. Responsible consumption and production,
- SDG 13. Climate protection,
- SDG 14. Water resources and environment,
- SDG 15. Resources and environment on land,
- SDG 16. Peace, justice and strong institutions,
- SDG 17. Cooperation for development goals.
Implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is towards a
consensus of countries to join hands to build a better world, for "a world that leaves no
one behind".
The Sustainable Development Goals are realistic, important, and closely related items
